Fuck Earth! Who cares about Earth?” Musk said. “If we can establish a Mars colony, we can almost certainly colonize the whole solar system, because we’ll have created a strong economic forcing function for the improvement of space travel. We’ll go to the moons of Jupiter, at least some of the outer ones for sure, and probably Titan on Saturn, and the asteroids. Once we have that forcing function, and an Earth-to-Mars economy, we’ll cover the whole solar system.
Finally, I should also say that I don’t believe that there’s a bright line anymore between business and consumer. We’re all just people. We have people with whom we wish to communicate and get things done: people we need, and people we love. Business apps classically suck the life out of you. There’s no more place for such apps in this world. We sought to build something that people would feel great about using, regardless of context.
Great quote from Ray Ozzie on designing for businesses vs. consumers.

Not Being John Malkovich
Sandro Miller teamed up with John Malkovich to recreate some of history’s most inspirational photographs. Here are some of my favourite, but if you’re thirsty for more check out Miller’s website at www.sandrofilm.com/.

Cool, yet creepy.
Re-engagement advertising is driven by a fundamental business (and consumer) need, and Facebook, Twitter, Apple, Yahoo!, and Google are all responding with deep linking topologies that enable re-engagement. This is a relatively new development, and it’s hard to predict where it might go. But one thing’s for sure — deep linking is good for both the developer and the consumer. It’s just a better experience to go directly into the exact right place inside an app that’s already on your phone. And for marketers, deep linking enables far superior “landing pages” inside their apps, driving a conversion path that is measurable and repeatable. It’s not hard to imagine that re-engagement is the beginning of a more robust economic model for mobile, one that will re-integrate much of the goodness we created when the Web broke wide open ten or more years ago.
Some good thoughts from John Battelle on re-engagement and deep linking.

Real estate is one of the few industries in the world that’s bigger than transportation. But in the coming decades, companies like Uber and Lyft—eventually super-charged by self-driving cars—are likely to change living patterns and upend property markets in ways that we’ve only begun to understand.
Continuing our series on international stock market breakouts, today we feature the Hong Kong Hang Seng. FYI, we did not plan this series, we simply go where the opportunity is — and there is a whole lot of it internationally at the moment. This includes the Hang Seng which has recently…
Watch out for Hong Kong. This market could run.
Mark Harris on the summer box office this year:
Should studios be worried? I think they should be, a little. It’s probably not a complete coincidence that the year’s biggest surprise hit, The Lego Movie, is a self-aware fable predicting an eventual revolt by a captive audience that’s tired of being told that everything is awesome when everything isn’t.
